Sindoor (vermilion) is a special mark applied to the head by married women in Hinduism, or Sanatan Dharma.
Sindoor is an acid-type substance. The chemical formula of this blood-red colored substance is: Pb3O4. Its common chemical name is plumbous plumbic acid. It is also called lead (II, IV) oxide and trilead tetraoxide. Because of its red color, it is called Red Lead in English.
Some other characteristics of sindoor:
* It is basically an oxide compound of lead. * Its molecular structure is of a complex type. * Its melting point is above 550°C. * It is insoluble in water but partially soluble in acid.
